FMMS2011

Welcome to FMMS 2015

Please join the San Diego Section of the American Society of Naval Engineers for a "behind the scenes" tour of the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The San Diego Air & Space Museum is an aviation and space exploration museum in San Diego, California. It is located in Balboa Park and is housed in the former Ford Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Our section has the rare opportunity to visit the production area of the museum where aircraft are restored or built from the ground up. Currently the legendary Hughes H-1 Racer is in the early stages of being built.

The Hughes H-1 is a racing aircraft built by Hughes Aircraft in 1935. It set a world airspeed record and a transcontinental speed record across the United States.

Top speed: 352 mph (566 km/h)
Range: 4,000 miles (6,437 km), Wingspan: 32' (9.67 m)
Length: 27' (8.23 m), Weight: 3,571 Lbs. (1,620 kg)
Manufacturer: Hughes Aircraft Company
Engine type: Pratt & Whitney R-1535 Twin Wasp Junior

After the tour of the production area you will have time to visit the main museum at your own pace to see the exhibits that interest you. We will then take a short walk over to the Prado for a hosted reception and dinner at the Prado. Please join us-this will be a great family event!
